What Is Dental 3D Printing?
Dental 3D printing uses biocompatible resins and ultra-high-resolution stereolithography (SLA orDLP) technology to build precision dental objects layer by layer, directly from a digital design file. Instead of waiting days or weeks for an external laboratory, we design the object in software and print it in hours — often while you’re still in the clinic for treatment planning.

After we plan an implant case digitally — combining your CBCT scan with the digital impression from the Medit scanner — we 3D-print a custom surgical guide that fits precisely in your mouth and directs the implant drill to the exact pre-planned position with millimetre accuracy. Custom guides like these used to require external labs and a week of waiting; with SprintRay we print them on-site, often in hours.
Dental Models
Digital 3D-printed models of your teeth are used for treatment planning, smile design mock-ups, retainer fabrication and case communication. Far more precise than traditional plaster casts.
Night Guards & Splints
Custom-fitted night guards for bruxism and TMD, stabilisation splints for TMJ therapy, andorthodontic retainers can all be 3D-printed directly from your digital scan — faster and with better precision than traditional vacuum-formed alternatives.

Is the resin safe for dental use?
Yes — every resin we print with is biocompatible, FDA-cleared and CE-marked for dental use. The materials are extensively tested and used in advanced dental practices worldwide.
How long does it take to 3D-print an appliance?
It varies: a single surgical guide takes about 30–60 minutes; a night guard takes 1–2 hours; a full set of dental models can be printed overnight. After printing, objects need a brief washing and curing cycle of another 10–20 minutes.
Does 3D printing replace dental laboratories?
Not entirely — and we don’t want it to. For final ceramic crowns, veneers and complex prosthetics, we still work with specialised dental laboratories. 3D printing complements that workflow by handling surgical guides, models, splints, temporaries and orthodontic appliances quickly and precisely in-house.
Will my treatment be cheaper because of in-house printing?
For certain treatments (surgical guides, simple splints, models) yes — we don’t incur external lab fees. For ceramic restorations the cost reflects the laboratory’s expertise and material, which doesn’t change.
Can I see my appliance being printed?
Patients are often curious about it. We’re happy to walk you past the printer and explain what’s being made. The whole process is visible and rather satisfying to watch.
How accurate is dental 3D printing?
SprintRay printers achieve dental-grade accuracy in the range of 25–50 microns — fine enough for surgical guide work, crown frameworks, splints and orthodontic appliances. This is on a par with the most accurate dental laboratory milling.
