Paediatric Dentistry at Dentistar

Paediatric Dentistry is specialised dental care for children—from the first tooth to adolescence. At Dentistar Dental Clinic in Strovolos, Nicosia, we welcome young children into a friendly, warm environment and use gentle, playful techniques that turn the dental visit into a positive experience. Our goal is twofold: to treat problems when they arise—but most importantly, to prevent them, by building healthy oral hygiene habits from an early age.

Your child’s very first dental visit shapes their attitude toward dental care for the rest of their life.

Childhood dental decay is the single most common chronic disease in children — and almost entirely preventable.

When cavities develop in baby or permanent teeth, gentle and effective treatment is essential — not just to stop the decay, but to keep the child’s overall dental development on track.

When a baby tooth is lost too early — through decay, trauma or extraction — a small space-keeping appliance can prevent years of later orthodontic problems.

Persistent thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, finger sucking or pacifier dependence can permanently affect a child’s developing teeth, jaws and bite if they continue past ages 3–4.

A fearful child can become a fearful adult — and adult dental anxiety often leads to decades of avoided care, lost teeth and serious health problems.

When something goes wrong with a child’s teeth, every minute counts — especially after trauma. Knowing what to do in the first 15 minutes can be the difference between saving and losing a tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

At what age should I take my child to the dentist for the first time?

On the 1st birthday or as soon as the first teeth appear. It’s a friendly introduction — not treatment — that builds trust and enables early prevention.

Absolutely yes. Baby teeth hold the space for permanent teeth, help with chewing and speech, and decay in them can affect the permanent teeth developing underneath. Early loss causes orthodontic problems in the future.

Every 6 months for most children— sometimes more often if they’re at higher risk of decay or wearing an appliance. Routine visits keep small problems small.

Yes. Our team is trained in caring for children with special needs, complex medical histories or severe anxiety. We adapt appointment length, environment and approach to each child. See the Dental Anxiety Management page for our approach.

Yes — we encourage it, especially for younger children. Your presence is reassuring. For older children, sometimes they cope better solo; we’ll discuss what works best together.

Yes — and so will we. That’s exactly why we go slowly, communicate clearly and never use force or surprise. The first dental memories shape lifelong attitudes toward dental care — we treat them with the importance they deserve.
