Porcelain Crowns
What Is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a restoration that completely covers a tooth, restoring its natural appearance and strength. It’s used when a tooth has suffered significant damage and cannot be restored with a filling alone.
When You Need a Crown
- After root canal treatment, to protect the tooth
- On a tooth with a large fracture or crack
- In extensive decay where a filling is not possible
- For aesthetic restoration of front teeth
- On top of a dental implant
Types of Crowns
All-ceramic crowns (zirconia / e.max)
Excellent aesthetics and biocompatibility. Ideal for front teeth where appearance is critical.
Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns
The metal substructure provides high strength, making them ideal for back teeth that handle heavy chewing forces.
The Placement Procedure
1st appointment:
Local anaesthesia, gentle preparation of the tooth, and precise impressions (conventional or digital).
2nd appointment:
Try-in of the crown to check fit, colour and bite.
3rd appointment:
Permanent cementation of the crown. The entire process usually takes 2–3 weeks.
Dental Bridges
What Is a Dental Bridge?
A bridge is a fixed prosthetic restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth. It is anchored to the adjacent natural teeth (which are prepared and crowned) or to dental implants.
When We Choose a Bridge
- When one or more adjacent teeth are missing
- When dental implants are not a viable option
- When the adjacent teeth already have large fillings or need crowns
Benefits of Crowns & Bridges
- Restore chewing function
- Preserve your smile and confidence
- Stabilise the jaw and prevent adjacent teeth from shifting
- Last 10–15 years or more with proper care
- Look completely natural

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How long do crowns and bridges last?
With proper oral hygiene and regular check-ups, they typically last 10–15 years or longer. The most important factor is the health of the gums and supporting teeth.
Does getting a crown hurt?
No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and is painless. You may experience mild sensitivity for 2–3 days afterwards, which resolves on its own.
How many appointments are needed?
Usually 2–3 appointments over a 2–3 week period. Between appointments, you’ll wear a temporary crown so the area isn’t sensitive and you can eat normally.
How do I care for my crown or bridge?
Just like your natural teeth: brush twice a day, floss daily (or use a special bridge floss for bridges), and have a professional cleaning every 6 months.
Crown or dental implant — which should I choose?
It depends on the condition of the tooth. If the root is healthy, a crown is ideal. If the tooth has been lost entirely, a dental implant is usually the best option. At Dentistar, we evaluate each case individually and recommend the most appropriate solution.
How much does a porcelain crown cost in Cyprus?
The cost depends on the material (zirconia, all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal) and the complexity of the case. At Dentistar, we provide a clear quote before treatment begins.
