Root Canal Treatment at Dentistar
Root Canal Treatment — also known as endodontic therapy — is the branch of dentistry that diagnoses and treats diseases of the dental pulp and root canals. At Dentistar Dental Clinic in Strovolos, Nicosia, we perform the full range of endodontic procedures with modern equipment (NiTi rotary instruments, digital X-rays, electronic apex locators), for painless and successful treatments.
Pulpitis is inflammation of the pulp — the tissue inside the tooth containing nerves and blood vessels.
A periapical abscess is a dental infection with pus at the tip of a tooth’s root. It’s the next stage of an untreated pulpitis or necrotic pulp.
Endodontic retreatment (also known as re-endo or root canal retreatment) is a second chance for a tooth that has had a previous root canal but shows recurrent symptoms or infection.
How Modern Root Canal Treatment Is Performed

- Sinus tract (small “hole” on the gums discharging fluid)
- Dark, grey or pink discolouration of the tooth (sign of pulp necrosis)
Everything You Need to Know
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is root canal treatment painless?
Yes. With modern local anaesthesia, the treatment itself is completely painless. The pain most patients associate with “root canals” is the pain of the inflammation BEFORE treatment — not from the treatment.
How long does treatment take?
Usually 1–2 appointments of 45–90 minutes, depending on the number of roots and complexity. Front teeth (single root) are quicker; molars (3–4 roots) take longer.
What is the success rate?
With modern techniques, root canal treatment success exceeds 90%. With proper final restoration (usually a crown), the tooth can last a lifetime.
Do I need a crown afterwards?
On back teeth (molars, premolars) — almost always yes, because they become more brittle and may fracture. On front teeth, the need is assessed individually.
What if the treatment fails?
There are options: endodontic retreatment (re-endo), endodontic surgery (apicoectomy), or —rarely — extraction with an implant. At Dentistar, we always exhaust preservation options before recommending extraction.
How much does root canal treatment cost in Cyprus?
It depends on the tooth (single-rooted, double-rooted, multi-rooted). At Dentistar, you receive a clear quote after the initial check and necessary X-rays.
